Faber-Castell Trio Sharpening Box Review

This month’s My Fave Monday post is on the Faber-Castell Trio Sharpening Box. I’ve had this pencil sharpener for about a year now and it’s been my go to manual pencil sharpener when I’m working in colored pencil. In general, I’m a pretty big fan of Faber-Castell’s products, so when I came across this sharpener in one of my local art stores, it didn’t take much convincing for me to try it out. I’ve gotten a lot of use out of this pencil sharpener and have even purchased a second one as a back up because I love it so much!  This sharpener is available at most art store or online for around $10 depending on the retailer.

Here’s a breakdown of my pros and cons of the product:

Pros:

  • 3 different sized holes for sharpening: coloured pencil, standard pencil, and jumbo size
  • Click locking mechanism so that both sides stay together when not in use
  • Removable sharpener from coloured pencil side base: ideal for changing out the blades.
  • Consistent sharpening
  • Minimal to no breakage on leads
  • Great for travel
  • Visually pleasing design and ergonomic shape
  • Durable design, even after many uses

Cons:

  • Shavings compartments can be a little difficult to open
  • Fullness of shavings container not visible from the outside
  • Doesn’t sharpen to long point
  • Not suitable for pastel pencils
  • Only available in one colour
