“Strong & Free” 14×11 in Colored Pencil, Acrylic Ink and Watercolor Pencils on Hot Press Watercolor Paper 2017. All images copyright Barb Sotiropoulos. All Rights Reserved. This illustration is 1 of 14 in the Canada 150 series. It’s inspired by the symbols of my home province of Alberta. These symbols include the bighorn sheep, great horned owl, trout, lodgepole pine and wild rose. Although not an official symbol, I’ve also included wheat to pay homage to the province’s agricultural history with the Alberta Wheat Pool. Note: The official fish of Alberta is the bull trout, but I’ve chosen to depict the rainbow trout for artistic reasons.
