April 26, 2022Leave a comment

Many artists rely on some sort of photo reference to create their artwork and thanks to the internet there are more resources than ever before. While you can still work more traditionally from life or in person subject matter, royalty-free reference photos allow those without the means, time or access to take their own photos … Continue reading 5 Things to Know About Reference Photos

Choosing the Right Paper Type

February 20, 2022March 14, 20221 Comment

One of the most hotly debated aspects of creating colored pencil artwork surrounds what is the best paper to use. Some will even post in artist forums desperately seeking the answer to this question as if it was some sort of secret that everyone is keeping from them. The answer is not a simple one … Continue reading Choosing the Right Paper Type

Why Having A Process is Important

January 28, 2022March 14, 20222 Comments

For many artists, the process of making their art is fluid, intuitive, and even spontaneous. It can be as simple as picking some colours and letting the magic happen or if you're like the rest of us...there's a lot more planning needed to achieve your vision. Having a more structured approach to creating your art … Continue reading Why Having A Process is Important

Plan To Be a Big Deal

January 2, 2022Leave a comment

The biggest takeaway from the last year for me was to not put things off thinking that there will be time later. I've often been guilty of saying something is a priority and then putting it off time and time again. The phrase I always come back to though is that if something is truly … Continue reading Plan To Be a Big Deal

It’s been a very busy May working on a bunch of projects in the works. Unfortunately, that also meant not having a lot of time to create art. A little sketchbook mixed media piece I did the other day. ☺️ The weather is finally turning around and the grass is getting greener. What do you like most about spring? Some days you wake up inspired to draw. Today I decided to create this piece of my dog @camaro_theshiba from a photo I took a few months ago. The light was perfect and the snow sprinkles on his face just made the whole scene feel magical. ❄️ Something about drawing and painting oranges makes me think of summer. 😊 I don’t know about you but I’m ready for warmer weather. 🍊☀️ Just a little skull in a sketchbook. 🙂💀 I wanted to explore using different colours on a coloured background to study value and shape. This sketchbook is roughly 8x8 and is the perfect size for me to do a decent sized exploration without feeling too overwhelmed by the size. Did you know that you are 42% more likely to reach a goal if you write it down? Today is International Women’s Day, and while much has been done over the years to fight for the equality of women, there are still places in the world where this is still not the case. I feel very fortunate as a woman living in Canada to have the rights and the freedoms that I do and I wish this gift for every woman on this planet. I teased a small portion of this image a little while ago and now I’m happy to share the full thing. Today’s #marchmeetthemaker prompt is three things. The three drawings in this post were all created with coloured pencil and a different medium.
