5 Ways to Stay Safe Online

April 4, 2022April 4, 2022Leave a comment

In the last decade our lives have become increasingly more digital. The pandemic alone forced many artists to reconfigure their in-person workshops and classes to social media and online platforms. In this rush to learn and become proficient in online-based technology, there's an important fundamental that's not always prioritized – cyber security. If not taken … Continue reading 5 Ways to Stay Safe Online

Ways to Combat Online Negativity

June 8, 2020December 30, 20202 Comments

Try as you might, not everyone is going to like you or your art. If you've got an inner people-pleaser like many of us do, then the concept of this probably doesn't sit well with you. When it comes to the creative things that you put out into the world this can be especially hurtful. … Continue reading Ways to Combat Online Negativity

Instagram Fame Might Not Be For You

March 8, 2020December 30, 20201 Comment

One of the misconceptions I see with a lot of new users is that "Instagram fame" is somehow easier to achieve than it is. They think, "okay my content is great, I'm using relevant hashtags, I'm posting often (but not too often), I'm engaging with other users.....why is my follower and like count still so … Continue reading Instagram Fame Might Not Be For You

Instagram is Not Validating You As An Artist

January 12, 2020December 30, 20202 Comments

You would be hard-pressed to walk down the street in the last decade, and not see the steady incline of people starring at their phones as if there was literally nothing else around them that was more interesting. We are often experiencing life through our phone screens instead of with our own eyes. Instead of … Continue reading Instagram is Not Validating You As An Artist

So you finally did it. You've signed up for your very own social media account. At first, you’re a little nervous, “Do I really want to put myself and my art out there like this?!”  Despite any better judgment, you go for it anyway. After your first few posts, your follower count increases slowly, starting … Continue reading Reasons Why You Are Losing Followers

Follow Me on Instagram

It’s been a very busy May working on a bunch of projects in the works. Unfortunately, that also meant not having a lot of time to create art. A little sketchbook mixed media piece I did the other day. ☺️ The weather is finally turning around and the grass is getting greener. What do you like most about spring? Some days you wake up inspired to draw. Today I decided to create this piece of my dog @camaro_theshiba from a photo I took a few months ago. The light was perfect and the snow sprinkles on his face just made the whole scene feel magical. ❄️ Something about drawing and painting oranges makes me think of summer. 😊 I don’t know about you but I’m ready for warmer weather. 🍊☀️ Just a little skull in a sketchbook. 🙂💀 I wanted to explore using different colours on a coloured background to study value and shape. This sketchbook is roughly 8x8 and is the perfect size for me to do a decent sized exploration without feeling too overwhelmed by the size. Did you know that you are 42% more likely to reach a goal if you write it down? Today is International Women’s Day, and while much has been done over the years to fight for the equality of women, there are still places in the world where this is still not the case. I feel very fortunate as a woman living in Canada to have the rights and the freedoms that I do and I wish this gift for every woman on this planet. I teased a small portion of this image a little while ago and now I’m happy to share the full thing. Today’s #marchmeetthemaker prompt is three things. The three drawings in this post were all created with coloured pencil and a different medium.
