Happy Monday! For those of you that have been following me on my Facebook page you maybe have seen my features on artists that inspire me. I’ve decided to expand that feature post not only to my blog but also to incorporate books, blogs or anything else that I find inspirational.
This month’s feature is a relatively new kid on the block, but one that I think will become very popular very soon. If you haven’t already come across diyartcareer.com on Facebook, do yourself a favor and check it out. If you are new to art biz there is some great information here to give you advice along the way. The blog is run by Princess Mia (yes that is her real given name, and it’s awesome) who is a working artist herself and wanted to give back to the art community. I came across her post called The Ultimate Guide to Pricing Your Artwork through another Facebook page I follow, and immediately felt like I needed to start taking notes. Her posts have a lot of great in-depth advice and she even has more in-depth resources that you can purchase for a very reasonable price. You basically have no excuse not to check this out. Some people take YEARS to figure out on their own what she has graciously blogged about for FREE on her site. The business side of art can be really overwhelming, especially if all you really want to do is just make art. However, if you want to take it to the next level, and even make a career out of it one day, you need to educate yourself on how to do that. Of the many websites and artists out there giving advice, I think this is one of the better ones I have come across.
“Blogs are all fine and dandy to read, but what if you have questions that aren’t answered on the blog post?” No Problem! There is a Facebook group you can join where you can ask questions and interact with other artists with the same goals. You can also find DIY Art Career on most major social media platforms if Facebook isn’t your thing. She also offers opportunities to be featured for free on Instagram and the blog, which gives you exposure to a whole new community and rapidly growing base of viewers. This is definitely a blog you want to bookmark as a resource.
I strongly believe in supporting other artists, especially those who want to help other artist like themselves. With so many talented artist out on the internet it can be easy to get lost in the shuffle, but if we help each other out there is a chance that we can all get our chance to shine, even if it’s for a moment. No two artists are the same, and as long as we are all willing to value what everyone bring to the table and celebrate that, we can all be successful in our own ways. Good Luck with the growing success of your blog Princess Mia, I for one will be staying tuned for more!
